Fubara Raises Alarm Over Possible Emergence Of Militiamen In Rivers LGA

The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has raised the alarm over the possible emergence of militiamen in Degema Local Government Area (LGA).

According to him, the looming threat is due to some men occupying what seems to be an abandoned military base in the locality.

Fubara spoke on Tuesday when senior officers led by the new General Officer Commanding, Six Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Jamal Abdussalam, visited him at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

According to him, the looming threat is due to some men occupying what seems to be an abandoned military base in the locality.

The governor described the public appearance of the men with firearms as embarrassing and an insult to the state and federal governments.

He challenged the GOC to investigate and tackle the security threat without any delay.

Fubara further tasked the Army to strengthen their operations in the outskirts of the state, especially in areas where they have operational bases and where the government is carrying out infrastructural projects, to guarantee the safety of workers.

He promised to continue supporting the operations of the Army in Rivers State.

Earlier, the new GOC assured the governor of the Six Division's determination to provide security in the state and ensure the safety of the contractors handling the Port Harcourt Ring Road project, following the scope of their work.
