U.S court sentences Woodberry to 8 years in prison; to be deported to Nigeria afterwards

A judge in the United State court has sentenced Woodberry to eight years and three months in prison over a multimillion-dollar fraud.

The judge who sat on the case at the District Court of the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago has been identifed as Judge Robert Gettleman.

"The defendant is hereby committed to the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons to be imprisoned for a total term of 100 months as to count," Mr Gettleman said.

Mr. Ponle was sentenced after being convicted on one count of fraud. Seven other counts were dismissed following a plea bargain in April.

Mr. Ponle will also be "surrendered to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody for deportation immediately following his incarceration", the judge said.

Also, Woodberry has been ordered to pay seven victims an amount of $8 million in restitution after the court discovered he has the funds to pay off victims.

Jacob Olalekan also known as Hushpuppi was arrested by the FBI over fraudulent activities in 2019. The court has finally sentenced Woodberry to prison a few months after jailing his ally Hushpuppi to 14 years imprisonment.
