Arsenal confident of Declan Rice deal as they submit British-record £105m bid for West Ham captain

Arsenal believe they will win the race for Declan Rice after submitting a British-record offer worth £105million.

The Gunners are confident they will see off competition from Manchester City and finally land the West Ham captain.

Rice, who has also held talks with Newcastle, has made it clear Arsenal are his preferred destination.

Arsenal have offered a guaranteed £100m to West Ham, with performance related add-ons taking the deal to £105m.

While the deal is closer to West Ham's valuation, the Hammers are understood to be seeking a faster payment structure before accepting the offer.

Should an agreement be reached, it will be a record fee involving a British player, surpassing the £100m City paid Aston Villa to sign Jack Grealish in the summer of 2021.

It would smash Arsenal's transfer record too by a significant sum and be a major statement of intent from Mikel Arteta's side, who finished second to Man City in the Premier League last season.

Arsenal made their latest move after seeing City table a bid worth up to £90m for Rice - an initial £80m with £10m in add-ons - an offer which was instantly rejected by West Ham.

Arsenal have already had two bids of their own knocked back - the latest worth £75m up front and £15m in add-ons.

They now hope to have finally met West Ham's valuation of their captain and to beat City to the 24-year-old's signature.

West Ham owner David Sullivan told talkSPORT last month that Rice's Europa Conference League final-winning performance would be his last game for the club.

He has played 245 games for West Ham, having come through the club's youth system after being released by Chelsea.

City emerged as late contenders to sign Rice after the departure of Ilkay Gundogan to Barcelona.

However, Pep Guardiola's side have since acquired Croatia midfielder Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea and it remains to be seen whether they will match Arsenal's bid.

Arsenal are set to be busy in the transfer market with Chelsea forward Kai Havertz and Ajax defender Jurrien Timber also closing in on moves.
