Chelsea face challenge from Real Madrid in bid to sign Inter Milan star

Real Madrid v Paris Saint-Germain: Round Of Sixteen Leg Two - UEFA Champions League

Chelsea face a transfer battle Real Madrid to sign Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez this summer, according to reports.

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has identified Martinez as the striker he wants to sign this summer - with the Blues in desperate need to bring in a new forward.

Martinez still has three years remaining on his current contract with Inter but reports have claimed that the Serie A club would consider selling the 25-year-old in order to balance their finances.

But Chelsea must convince Martinez to pick Stamford Bridge over Real Madrid with The Times reporting that both clubs are in the race for the Argentine.

Real Madrid are also seeking a new striker this summer after Karim Benzema departed the Spanish capital for Saudi Arabia.

The La Liga side want to sign Harry Kane but he may be heading to Manchester United with the England captain thought to be keen to break Alan Shearer's Premier League goalscoring record.

That could see them turn their attentions towards Martinez - with his future set to be decided after Saturday's Champions League final against Manchester City.

Martinez has registered 28 goals and 11 assists across all competitions for Inter this season.

He joined Inter in 2018 from Racing Club, scoring 102 times and providing 36 assists in 237 appearances in total.

Martinez has been capped 48 times by Argentina and was part of the squads which won the World Cup in Qatar as well as the Copa America title in 2021.
