World Cup: England told to boycott tournament in Qatar

Former England midfielder, Matt Le Tissier, has urged the Three Lions to boycott the 2022 FIFA World Cup over the 'OneLove' armband mess.

Le Tissier also wants Gareth Southgate's side to rescind their FIFA membership.

England and Wales, including some other countries, were planning to wear the OneLove armbands promoting inclusivity and LGBTQ+ rights in Qatar, a nation which criminalises same-sex relationships.

But all the nations backed down once FIFA threatened to give a card to players who wore it.

Speaking about England's decision to back down, Le Tissier told GB News, "It just goes to prove what a lot of people are saying about it. It's pure virtue signalling. They aren't hundred per cent wholeheartedly behind it."

He continued, "If you want to make a real statement, then you boycott the World Cup. What would make an even better statement is if they boycotted FIFA and rescinded their membership because that organisation is rotten to the core."
