World Cup referee gives 10 red cards in one match

World Cup Referee Facunda Tello brandished a staggering ten red cards during and after Boca Juniors' 2-1 Trophy of Champions defeat against Racing.

With scores tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes, both teams were left with ten men after a fight broke out between Boca's Sebastian Villa and Racing player Johan Carbonero.

The tussle started after Boca demanded a penalty should have been awarded for a handball in the area.

After the incident unfolded, referee Tello shown red cards to both Villa and Carbonero, but did not stop there.

Carlos Alcaraz scored a late winner for the away side with a header, sending the Estadio Parque La Pedrera into bedlam.

Alcaraz's celebrations did not go down well with the Boca players, who grabbed the midfielder, threw the ball at him, before pushing the 19-year-old.

Tello then handed out five red cards to Boca and two to Racing, with Alcaraz giving his marching orders.

Luis Advincula, Carlos Zambrano, Diego Gonzales, Frank Fabra and Dario Benedetto were sent off for Boca, while Racing's Catriel was sent off.

Boca's Alan Varela also picked up a second bookable offence meaning Tello sent off seven players following the incident.

Tello will head to the World Cup later this month, having officiated a total of 118 professional matches in the Argentine Primera Division.

Having brandished 612 yellows and 45 red cards to date, it is not the first time the Buenos Aires-born referee has relieved more than one player of their duties.

In September, he dished out six yellow cards and three reds as Racing secured a 1-0 victory over Club Atletico Platense.

Despite being card happy, he is regarded as one of the best referees in South America, and is certainly someone to look out for in the Gulf State, with the World Cup kicking off on November 20 with Qatar vs Ecuador.
