Super Eagles: Appoint Okocha or Kanu, discharge Pinnick - Nigerians react as NFF sacks Eguavoen

Mixed reactions have trailed the Nigeria Football Federation's (NFF) decision to sack Augustine Eguavoen and the entire coaching crew of the Super Eagles.

NFF took the decision following Nigeria's failure to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Recall that the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup after losing by away goal rule to Ghana in Abuja on Tuesday evening.

The General Secretary of the NFF, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, had in a press statement on Thursday said the technical crew of the Super Eagles, including Eguavoen, had been sacked with immediate effect.

However, Nigerians have taken to Twitter to ask the NFF to either appoint Nigerian legends, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha or Nwankwo Kanu, as Super Eagles' next manager following the sacking of Eguavoen.

While some also asked the NFF to sack its President Amaju Pinnick immediately.

Here are some of the tweets below:

@BlaiseChimezie, "The next head coach should be either Okocha or Kanu Nwankwo."

@andyblisss, "Sack Pinnick too."

@FranklinNwokor5 wrote, "Eguavoen failed the nation but those who decided to give him the job should also. We need to start with a clean slate."

@Legzy111, "Mr Eguavoen should also resign from his post as the Technical Director of NFF and not only as Super Eagles Coach because he lacks the technicalities to lead."

@UnclesolutionY, "Let us develop our football. Pry and Secondary schools football competitions are dead. Now, we are depending on European citizens because they are playing abroad. Ghana defeated us because their players are 85% breed at home."

@henrynwn, "Rohr had to go but no one envisaged the FA going to appoint Eguavoen. Twice leaders of the NFF failed this country and should resign instead they are busy sacking the technical crew when they ought to follow them out."

@Olayemmyy, "Pinnick needs to be restricted from visiting the Super Eagles in our forthcoming games."

@pecheli0, "Too little too late... It's sad that the NFF had to wait until the coaches caused so much pain to Nigerians before taking action. The handwriting was all over the place. The World Cup qualification playoff is NOT a time to experiment with players and formation. They got it all wrong."

@Uzochi_O, "Get Pitso Mosimane as Head Coach. Kennedy Boboye as Assistant and Vincent Enyeama as goalkeeper trainer. Salisu Yusuf and Alloy Agu should never ever come anywhere near any of our national teams ever again. Eguavoen too."

@jamesjobi, "Very good decision but it remains an apology to Gernot Rohr."

@NNAMDIK42585916, "Is AMAJU PINNICK still the NFF president? If yes, we are going nowhere."

@iam_wilsons, "Very good. Can Pinnick also join them?"
