Wolves 2-1 Manchester United: Mike Dean makes history by reaching century of Premier League red cards

Mike Dean has become the first referee in Premier League history to brandish 100 red cards.

The iconic official dismissed Ashley Young midway through the second-half of Manchester United's 2-1 defeat to Wolves at Molineux on Tuesday night.

The 50-year-old was given no choice following the defender's rash challenge on Diogo Jota, which was deemed worthy of a second yellow card.

Dean also hit double figures for this campaign after giving Young his marching orders.

It was his tenth dismissal in just 24 matches, almost double his closest competitor Michael Oliver, who has shown six red cards this term.

Dean has been one of the Premier League's most recognisable figures since the early 2000s - and he is miles ahead in the all-time red card race, with no other official reaching 60 yet.

While his career has been laden with controversy, he enjoyed a relatively quiet night on Tuesday as Wolves dealt a huge blow to Man United's top-four hopes.

Scott McTominay put the Red Devils in front with his first United goal, however their lead was quickly cancelled out by Jota following a mistake by Fred.

And Wolves completed their comeback victory thanks to an own-goal by Chris Smalling.
