Jose Mourinho plots £89m world record deal for top centre-back in January

Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho, has reportedly asked the club's chief to sign West Ham striker Marko Arnautovic in the January transfer window.

According to a UK Metro report, Mourinho was keen to sign the Austrian during the summer transfer window but did not submit a bid.

However, the Sunday Mirror now reports that Mourinho believes Arnautovic can provide more competition upfront, and possibly replace misfiring Romelu Lukaku.

Arnautovic made a move to the Hammers in 2017 in a £24m deal and has since established himself as a key member for Manuel Pellegrini's side.

Following his exploits at the club that have seen him notch 16 goals in 42 Premier League appearances, United are understood to be ready to splash a bid in excess of £50 million for the forward.

On his part, the 29-year-old is said to be open to join United should the opportunity present itself.

Should the deal see the light of day, Arnatutovic would once again have the chance of working under Mourinho once again.
