Striker Alvaro Morata hands Chelsea injury boost ahead of trip to Crystal Palace

Alvaro Morata has hinted on Instagram that he is about to return to training for Chelsea.

The Chelsea striker was sent home from international duty with Spain with a grim medical diagnosis that suggested he would miss up to eight weeks due to injury.

Morata picked up a hamstring issue in the loss to Manchester City just before the two-week international break.

Spain claimed the 24-year-old had suffered a grade two tear, but Chelsea were confident the Spanish medical team had overreacted.

Morata has been rehabilitating in Cobham and has been regularly assessed by the Blues medical team.

And in a surprise injury update on his Instagram on Wednesday, Morata seemed to hint he may already be back in training.

The goalscorer posted a picture with the caption: 'Coffee before training.'

There is no coffee in the picture, but there is the suggestion Morata would be training with the squad on Wednesday morning.

It is not clear what level of training Morata will undergo, with the possibility he could just be doing some light running and fitness work.

Nonetheless, it is a major boost for Chelsea who were concerned about Spain's injury time frame.

The Londoners were aiming to have Morata back running this week and it seems they have met that target.

Chelsea travel to rock-bottom side Crystal Palace on Saturday before the Blues' welcome Roma to Stamford Bridge for their Champions League group game on Wednesday.

The Blues will now be hopeful Morata will be fit in time for that game.
