The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has disclosed that its investment in Kebbi State on girl-child education, nutrition, immunisation, among others humanitarian interventions, have increased from N1billion to N3.8 billion.
Chief of Field Office (CFO) in charge of Sokoto office of UNICEF, Dr. Mohammad Mohiuddin, disclosed this in Birnin-Kebbi, while briefing journalists after 2017 mid year review meeting with state government top cabinet members and other stakeholders, on Tuesday.
The mid year review meeting targeted activities area of health which includes nutrition, basic education WASH and communication for development.
Speaking with journalists, Mohiuddin said: "Before, our investment was N1billion. This year our investment in Kebbi increased to N3.8 billion higher than that of Sokoto and Zamfara states.
"This increments is due to the fact that Kebbi is in the extreme end of the country and there is no presence of international agencies. So,we called the attention of international donors to this place. You will be surprise that there are many killers diseases here including meningitis and 95 percent of children here are exposed to these dangers.
" That is why we brought international donors like European Union here in collaboration with UNICEF to partner with state government on humanitarian services".
He disclosed that Kebbi state government had released the sum of N300 million counterpart funds it promised this year stressed that they have shown higher commitment for the programme.
Mohiuddin disclosed that UNICEF had covered 12 Local Government Areas out of 21 saying ,"before end of this year, we shall make more progress".
In his remarks at meeting, Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Alhaji Jelani Mohammed Yauri, said the Kebbi State Government is committed to the agreement signed with UNICEF and would ensure it total implementation.
