Stray bullet kills 10-year-old boy at wedding in Katsina

A 10-year-old boy, Malam Yusuf, was killed by a stray bullet during a wedding ceremony in Unguwar Liman, Magama Jibia, Katsina State.

The incident occurred around 2:50 p.m. on Friday during the wedding fatiha of a member of the Nigerian Hunter Group.

The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Adamu Idris, allegedly fired a locally made rifle into the air in celebration. The bullet struck Yusuf in the stomach and also hit a 25-year-old woman, Shamsiyya Salisu, in the waist.

Both victims were taken to the General Hospital in Jibia, where Yusuf was confirmed dead. Salisu is receiving treatment.

The Katsina State Police Command confirmed the arrest of Idris. A locally made rifle, one live cartridge, and one expended cartridge were recovered from him. Police stated that an investigation is ongoing and the suspect will be prosecuted upon its conclusion.

The incident has drawn public outrage, with residents and community leaders condemning the use of firearms at social gatherings.
