Nigerian movie marketer and CEO of IbakaTV, Kazim Adeoti, has shed light on the qualities that drew him to Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe, eventually leading to their marriage.
Speaking during a recent interview on Oyinmomo TV, Adeoti described Aigbe as a "truthful and straightforward" woman whose honesty in a money-driven industry stood out to him from the beginning of their working relationship.
He recalled a specific incident in 2011 during the production of the film Hajia Jemila, which featured Aigbe. According to Adeoti, after paying the actress, he was taken aback when she returned to inform him that he had overpaid her, a rare gesture in his experience.
"Mercy Aigbe is someone that I've known for a long time. I knew she was an actress even before we met in person. When I got into the industry, I worked with many people, including her. What I love and admire most about her is that she's truthful and straightforward," he said.
"I was used to people saying the money wasn't enough. But in her case, she said that some money still remained. I was surprised. She's a woman who still stays true to herself," he added.
He further acknowledged Aigbe's significant role in his professional life, highlighting her experience in Nollywood and the value of her opinions in his filmmaking decisions.
"She's an experienced actress, so there's no way she won't have influence. She knows what we do. I usually ask for her ideas, and she tells me what she thinks. She has a busy schedule, so she only interferes when I ask," he said.
The couple's relationship was first made public in January 2022, sparking controversy after Adeoti's first wife, Funsho, accused Aigbe of "snatching" her husband. Adeoti, however, stood by his decision to take a second wife.
In 2023, Aigbe publicly converted to Islam, citing her love for Adeoti as the reason for the life-changing decision.
