La Liga president, Javier Tebas, has criticised the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup competition.
The Club World Cup competition has come under criticism from fans and club owners after FIFA decided to make it a full-blown tournament.
The competition, which is currently played in the United States of America, started on Monday.
Tebas slams FIFA tournament
La Liga president Javier Tebas made his position on the Club World Cup crystal clear, as reported by Abola.
"How to rethink the Club World Cup? Eliminate it. My objective is to have no more Club World Cups, I'm very clear about that. There are no dates available.
"We don't need another competition that shifts money towards a sector of clubs and players at the expense of others. There's no more money here, we have to maintain the ecosystem and eliminate it.
"Keep it as it was, a weekend tournament. There's no way, not with the dates, the economics, or for the sustainability of football," he argued, speaking to reporters.
"I haven't watched a single game. Well, I saw a bit of Chelsea against Los Angeles FC and it looked like a summer friendly. I didn't see any intensity, just running around, at least in the 25 minutes I watched. After that, I don't know if there was any intensity," he added, pointing out that the Club World Cup will impact the schedules of Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid.
"Of course it has an impact. There's a collective agreement that mandates three weeks of vacation, and La Liga will comply with it. Any other circumstance will require authorization, consensus from the competent authorities, but we'll wait and see what happens.
From what I understand, the Premier League teams in the Club World Cup will start on August 14th, as will those from the Bundesliga and Ligue 1.
But since Al Khelaifi is in charge there, he'll decide. If Real Madrid and Atlético reach the semi-finals they'll earn 120 million euros and we'll have to start later because they'll be tired.
Is that okay? What will the other clubs think? End the Club World Cup, why should we be the ones to change?" he concluded.
