Patience Jonathan, a former Nigerian First Lady has been awarded an honorary doctorate degree in Psychology, Guidance, and Counselling by Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt, during the university's 43rd Convocation Ceremony held on Saturday.
The event, which brought together dignitaries and well-wishers, also featured a spirited celebration led by women's groups in her honour.
Jonathan was seen dancing with Rivers Women Unite For SIM, under the leadership of Sotonye Toby Fult.
A video capturing the moment has since gone viral, showing the former First Lady dancing joyfully alongside the women while they sang the controversial song, "Na our mama be this ooo...", which raised eyebrows.
Amidst the jubilation, she addressed the women in her signature pidgin English, urging them to gather for a group photo before heading off to eat, "Make una come. Make we snap, let's go and eat."
Social media reactions quickly followed the release of the video, with many users on X (Formerly Twitter) sharing a mix of admiration and humour in response to her honorary achievement.
One X user, #escanor224, said, "Awwwn I'm happy for Patience Jonathan. From 'na only you waka come' to getting a PhD. This why I keep saying bad English is not a marker of intellect."
Another user, #XtyleL2909, viewed the moment with a more skeptical tone tweeting "This is satire of the week! Is Patience Jonathan, the wife of former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, seen in academic regalia celebrating the achievement of doctorate degree or mocking another MAMA?"
#obigoestoschool on X noted the evolution of her public persona,"Patience Jonathan now has a doctorate.
"From 'na only you waka come' to Dr. Patience. Hope those who mocked her are still fluent in bitterness?"
