Man waved at neighbor in morning, later told he passed away night before

A man was left in shock after learning that his neighbor-who waved at him that same morning-had actually passed away the night before.

The incident was shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter) by user @JOKAQARMY1, who also posted a video of the man recounting the eerie encounter.

Man waved at neighbor in morning, later told he passed away night before

According to the man, he was taking out the trash around 7:30 a.m. when he saw his neighbor, as usual, standing on his porch in a gray hoodie and waving at him. He waved back without thinking much of it.

About an hour later, he noticed flashing lights outside the neighbor's house. Two sheriff vehicles and a coroner's van had arrived.

Curious, he approached the police and asked what was going on-only to be informed that the man who lived there had passed away the previous night around 9:40 p.m. and was only discovered that morning.

Stunned, he told the officers that the man had waved at him earlier that day. When asked what the man was wearing, he said a gray hoodie-the same clothing the deceased was found in, slumped in a chair inside the house.

The story has since gone viral, sparking reactions and theories from thousands of commenters online.

See some reactions below:

@vonlugen: "There's no way they could know what time he passed, that's what the coroner's report is for."

@BreakingDawn64: "I saw my neighbor's dog one day. She was following the lady around like usual, sniffing the next yard over. Just being Nola the pug as usual. I told my neighbor it was good to see Nola, I hadn't seen her in a while. She looked at me like I had 3 heads. She said Nola passed away 2 weeks ago."

@OneKneeToeSF: "Idk if I'm the only one but I think daily about how many spirits I walk by each day. We will never know and its crazy to think about."

@_TraceBaba: "We are all living in a different dimension experiencing reality from our own holographic projections, reality is relative."

@DELTA_JULIET_: "They can't pinpoint a death to "9:40" 🤦🏼‍♀️ Maybe a general tone frame within an hour or two."
