Kenneth Okonkwo, spokesperson of the 2023 Labour Party presidential campaign, has taken a hard swipe at politicians defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing them as "professional criminals" driven by self-interest rather than ideology.
Okonkwo made the remarks during an interview on ARISE News on Monday while reacting to a recent APC defection rally in Delta State, where several high-profile politicians switched allegiances.
Using a vivid metaphor, he said:
"That palm wine, if you don't refrigerate it, can change taste more than 20 times in a day... These are politicians that are unstable like water. Palmwine politicians are individuals who constantly shift allegiances and ideologies for personal gain."
He went further to accuse some of the defectors of having tainted reputations, claiming that many of them have corruption cases hanging over their heads.
"On that podium, you saw men convicted by the Supreme Court for bribery and corruption in dollars in the name of integrity. Their surnames are now classified as dollar," he said.
The actor-turned-politician labelled the event a gathering of questionable characters, calling it "a subset of professional criminals made up of suspects, accused, and convicts."
