Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah confirmed what many people have suspected about his relationship with Senegalese forward Sadio Mane
For years, football fans speculated about the behind-the-scenes dynamic between Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane during their legendary spell at Liverpool.
Now, Salah has finally spoken up, confirming there was tension between the two African and Anfield icons.
Salah lifts the lid on Mane relationship
In a recent interview with France Football, Mohamed Salah admitted what many had long suspected: things were not always rosy between him and Sadio Mane.
The duo, alongside Roberto Firmino, formed a world-class front three that powered Liverpool to domestic and European glory, but behind the goals and trophies, there was a more complex relationship between the Egyptian and the Senegalese forwards.
Salah stated clearly, "Yes, there was tension with Sadi. Mind you, we were professional until the end; I don't think it affected the team... Off the pitch, we weren't very close, but we always respected each other."
Fans will recall the infamous 2019 incident against Burnley, where Mane visibly lost his temper after being subbed off, reportedly due to Salah not passing. That flashpoint became the face of years of rumours about rivalry and ego clashes.
But Salah was quick to downplay its impact, explaining that the competition between them was natural and even necessary for success, saying, "It's human to want more, I understand that; he's a competitor."
Salah replies critics who call him selfish
The Liverpool legend also responded to long-standing accusations that he was selfish on the pitch, especially in comparison to Mane, saying, "I don't care. People can think what they want; it's their right," he shrugged.
Salah also delivered a sharp rebuttal to the doubters, adding, "I invite everyone to note that the person who provided Mane with the most assists is me."
While Mane has since moved on, first to Bayern Munich and now currently Al Nassr, Salah has remained with Liverpool, guiding them to a second Premier League success, and extending his contract to keep him at Anfield for a few more years.
Thanks to Salah's honesty, fans now have a clearer picture of what was really going on between two of the Premier League's most iconic forwards.
