An Atalanta supporter was reportedly st@bbed to de@th after clashing with Inter Milan fans.
According to Reuters, the clash occurred between the two sets of fans in Bergamo on Saturday night.
The head of Carabinieri office in Bergamo, Carmelo Beringheli, confirmed the incident to Reuters, saying that the fight started after one of the Inter supporters chanted provocatively.
After the groups clashed in a pub, the violence escalated to the streets near the Atalanta stadium, with the Atalanta fan being stabbed in the back.
A suspect in his late teens was arrested and said that he acted to protect his brother, with police finding a knife close to the deceased.
Although emergency services quickly attended to the victim but they were unable to save him.
Atalanta fans paid tribute to 26-year-old Riccardo Claris during the match away to Monza on Sunday.
The Atalanta supporters unfurled a banner which read: 'Claris is everywhere with us'.
Speaking after the game, Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini said: 'What happened to our fan must never happen again'.
