Alvarez's future seems increasingly uncertain - with a report on Tuesday claiming that he has been open to leaving Manchester City for months.

Additionally, it was claimed that the £14 million man's dream destination would be Real Madrid but the move was ruled out.

Fabrizio Romano provides Julian Alvarez to Chelsea update

On Friday, it was reported that Chelsea are interested in signing Julian Alvarez in the summer.

Last season, the Blues' top goalscorer in the Premier League was Cole Palmer, with 22 goals but their star striker Nicolas Jackson registered just 14 goals.

However, Fabrizio Romano told CaughtOffside via Ben Jacobs that Chelsea are yet to make any direct contact to get a deal over the line for Julian Alvarez.

Romano said: "For English clubs, there is interest, yes but at the moment, still not a direct contact in terms of Chelsea or any other."

"At the moment, nothing yet concrete to Manchester City or the agents of the player."

The Italian journalist concluded: "So, we have to wait, the situation of Julian [Alvarez] is open at the moment, but I can guarantee that Manchester City will fight to keep the player at the club because they still believe he's going to be an important player for their future."

Julian Alvarez should snub Chelsea transfer

In our view, Julian Alvarez should reject the chance to join Chelsea.

The West London side is quite volatile in nature, mainly in terms of their transfer business and there seems to be no clear plan in place to ensure they progress season upon season.

Manchester City, on the other hand, will win the Premier League next season as well, according to Steve McManaman.

Alvarez started 31 games in the Premier League last season and in the following campaign, he could become a regular starter once again. The Argentine did not start in the last four league games but for much of the campaign, he has firmly been in Guardiola's plans - either as a number 10 or as a striker.

As a result, Julian Alvarez should back himself to regain his place at Manchester City instead of signing for a Chelsea team with no guarantee of success.

The decision lies in Alvarez's hands if he will continue to strive to start at City or reunite with Maresca at Stamford Bridge.
