Xavi explains he was hasty taking decision to leave Barcelona job

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has opened up about the reason behind his initial decision to leave the club as was announced in January.

Xavi said he was hasty with his decision, following the unimpressive performance of his players before the new year departure statement.

However, after a 4-2 win over Valencia on Monday night, Xavi is now positive about his team's progress.

"In January, I felt responsible for the bad results and thought stepping aside was best, but the confidence shown by the club, Deco, and especially the players was crucial.

"The emotional connection with Barca and the fans is profound. We experience highs and lows together.

"I've felt tremendous support from the club, Deco, and the players," he added.

Commenting on Robert Lewandowski's hat-trick and the team's performance, Xavi noted the need for continuous improvement, while demanding standards at the club.

"We strive for excellence and demand the best from our players. My decision to announce my departure was a reflection of that.

"Perhaps there was room for improvement, as evidenced in recent matches."
