EPL: Man Utd 'could be banned' from Europe next season over Ratcliffe's takeover

Manchester United could be banned from playing in Europe next season after Sir Jim Ratcliffe bought a minority stake in the Premier League club.

Ratcliffe also owns OGC Nice, who currently sit fifth in Ligue 1.

But UEFA's rules on multi-club ownership imply that both clubs would not be allowed to play in the same competition.

UEFA have tweaked their rules slightly, allowing clubs under common ownership to compete in different European competitions as of next season.

However, the ban on those teams participating in the same tournament remains.

"It is correct that Manchester United and Nice cannot play in the same competition.

"They could play in different competitions, as there is no 'feeding' between competitions any more," a UEFA insider is quoted as telling the Sun.
