The UN Security Council rejected a draft resolution on Tuesday that demanded an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip following the U. S. vetoed the text that Council member Algeria had submitted once more.
Thirteen of the fifteen council members overwhelmingly supported the proposal, citing fears of a potential major Israeli offensive against the densely populated city of Rafah in southern Gaza. The United Kingdom did not participate.
According to PM, Israel once more vehemently rejected calls for a truce after the vote.
This "absurd notion of a ceasefire" wasconstantly being thrown around within theSecurity Council and the UN General Assemblyas if it was "a silver bullet, a magical solution toall of the region's problems," Israel'sambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan,told the most powerful UN body.
"Today's cease-fire grants rapists and babykillers immunity.". It's a simple method to put off dealing with this issue until later," he remarked.
