Police rejects N4 million bribe from drug peddlers in Lagos

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode  Egbetokun, commended the integrity of SP Rilwan Kasumu and his team from the police tactical unit attached to Area K, Marogbo, Lagos State Command, for refusing a ₦4 million bribe during the investigation of a drug peddling and ammunition possession case.

This was revealed by the Police Force PRO, Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

He explained that on February 6, 2024, the team apprehended Esther Newman Obiekezie, 42, also known as Candy, at her residence on No 6, Mojirade Street, Ilogbo Lagos.

The arrest yielded a significant quantity of a substance known as ICE, along with AK47 live ammunition.

Adejobi added that during the subsequent inquiry, Akete Esther, 43, and Oke Okebalam, 49, visited the Ijanikin police station, attempting to secure the release of Esther Newman Obiekezie.

He explained that they offered ₦4 million bribe and pleaded for an end to police interference in Esther's illegal drug peddling business.

However, the police officer rejected the bribe, confiscated the cash, and marked it as evidence.
