Hamas Says It Will Respect ICJ Verdict and Release Israeli Captives If Israel Does The Same

Tomorrow, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) will decide whether to impose emergency measures on Israel, as requested by South Africa.

South Africa has accused Israel of committing genocide against the Palestinian people and has asked the ICJ to intervene.

One of the emergency measures that the ICJ could order is an immediate halt to the hostilities between Israel and Hamas, the militant group that controls Gaza.

According to Al Jazeera, Hamas has welcomed this possibility and has made a surprising offer: if the ICJ rules for a ceasefire and Israel respects it, Hamas will also stop firing rockets and release all the Israeli captives it holds in Gaza. In exchange, Hamas demands that Israel frees all the Palestinian prisoners it has detained.

This could be a historic opportunity to end the decades-long conflict that has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions of people. However, it remains to be seen whether Israel will accept the ICJ's authority and comply with its ruling, or whether it will reject it as an interference in its sovereignty and security.
