The Africa Cup of Nations is seen as the number one football event on the continent, and the 34th edition will kick off on January 13, 2024, in Ivory Coast.

The last financial rankings of national teams for the year 2023 done by Transfermarkt saw some African countries witness a rise in their squad market value.

Most of these African sides are part of the 24 teams that qualified for the 2023 AFCON and will compete against each other for the title in Ivory Coast.

Top 5 most valuable squads in AFCON

African national teams are doing well globally regarding market values as they boast three countries in the top 15 of the world's most valuable squads, according to a report by the PUNCH.

Ahead of the biggest football competition in Africa, Sports Brief looks at the tournament's top five most valuable squads.

5. Ghana

The Black Stars are ranked the fifth most valuable squad in Africa with a market value of €285m, climbing above Algeria in the latest ranking.

4. Senegal

The Teranga Lions, the defending Champions, are fourth on the continent with a market value of €266m.

3. Ivory Coast

The host nation are ranked 15th globally but are third in Africa with a market value of €340.58m, which sees them rise from their previous valuation of €315.08m.

2. Morocco

The 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finalists are second in Africa as they moved from the previous €326.05m valuation to €350.80m.

1. Nigeria

The three-time African champions maintain their top spot on the ranking as they witnessed a massive increase in market value from €451.60m to €465.90m in the latest financial report.
