Crowd welcomes Governor Yusuf on his return to Kano

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State was greeted by an enormous crowd upon his return to the North-West state on Sunday. The governor had been absent from the state due to a legal dispute over his position, which resulted in the Court of Appeal removing him as leader and declaring Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the March 2023 poll. However, Governor Yusuf contested this decision, with the Supreme Court reserving judgment on the matter.

Despite this uncertainty, a large number of supporters lined the streets wearing red attire associated with the Kwankwasiya movement, chanting songs in solidarity with their leader, who rose to power under the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP). Many held banners and posters reading "Abba is our choice" and "Justice for Kano" while accompanying Governor Abba's motorcade.

The event caused significant disruption in the area, causing it to take hours for Governor Abba's convoy to move from Malam Aminu Kano International Airport to Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium in Kofar Mata.

Supporters also took to social media platforms, sharing videos and images welcoming back their governor. "Kano is Red,referencing the Kwankwasiya movement's signature color, became one of that day's major trends.

Governor Abba arrived at Sani Abacha Stadium, where he flagged off training for 2600 corporate security officers.

His homecoming comes weeks after a November 13th verdict upheld by the court of appeals affirming Gawuna as duly elected governor following a tribunal ruling nullifying Yusuf's victory during the March 18th gubernatorial election, citing breach of electoral law due to the candidate not meeting requirements required by law.
