Ghana made to sweat over Partey's AFCON participation after injury setback

Thomas Partey's participation in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations is in doubt as the Arsenal midfielder's injury problems continue.

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has emerged as an injury doubt for Ghana heading into the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.

Partey injury problems continue

Partey has struggled with fitness concerns throughout the 2022/23 season, and after suffering a groin injury against Fulham, the Arsenal midfielder has barely participated in the Gunners' fixtures.

The Ghanaian midfielder has played in only five matches this season, and according to a report from the Mirror, he could be set to miss the rest of 2023 due to the injury setback.

With the 2023 AFCON set to start in January 2024, the midfielder is now a major doubt for Ghana as they look to claim their first title since 1982.

Partey a doubt for AFCON

Partey has been part of Ghana's squads at the 2022 World Cup and 2021 AFCON and is among the leaders in the team, meaning his absence will be strongly felt by the Black Stars if he is unable to recover in time.

Ghana will play against Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique in Group B of the 2023 AFCON and could play against the Super Eagles of Nigeria if the two sides finish second in their respective groups.

The Black Stars were only unable to qualify from the group stages of both the 2022 World Cup and 2021 AFCON and will be hoping to improve on their recent poor showings at tournaments.

They will hope iconic midfielder Thomas Partey will be fit enough to help them achieve this goal.
