Fuel Subsidy: Details Of Meeting Between Tinubu Govt, TUC Emerge

Newsmen understands that the meeting was fixed by the Federal Government in an effort to find common ground and avert the planned nationwide industrial action from Wednesday.

The organised labour unions last week had expressed their intention to embark on an indefinite strike on the 3 of October 2023.

The meeting between the union leaders and the Federal Government will be held at the Aso Rock Villa.

Sources that spoke with Vanguard revealed that the meeting will commence at 12 noon.

The meeting was scheduled days after leaders of the organised labour unions shunned a meeting called by the Federal Government in a desperate effort to avert the planned nationwide strike from October 3.

According to the two labour unions, the government's invitation came late as they had scheduled engagements outside Abuja.

Labour leaders had requested for a rescheduling of the meeting, which the government had done.

The organised labour unions had made demands from the Federal Government following the removal of the subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit.

Among other things, the NLC and the TUC are asking for wage awards, implementation of palliatives, tax exemptions and allowances to public sector workers and a review of the minimum wage.
