EPL: Why Chelsea lost 1-0 against Aston Villa - Pochettino

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has explained why his team lost 1-0 against Aston Villa in Sunday's Premier League tie at Stamford Bridge.

We reported that a second-half goal from Ollie Watkins gave Aston Villa all three points against Chelsea.

Malo Gusto did receive a red card during the encounter.

Speaking at his post-match press conference after the game, Pochettino suggested the red card the Blues received changed the course of the game.

According to him, his players missed goal-scoring chances against Unai Emery's side and were unlucky against the visitors.

"First half, I think we deserved more. Second half, we started on top of them but after the red card, the game changed," Pochettino said.

"The performance is good, not excellent but we are missing goals."

He added:

"I start tomorrow again to prepare for Wednesday and hope we can score Wednesday. A little bit unlucky; how many chances did we have, like Aston Villa? We block the shot and go in. That happened; we need to accept the reality but it was a little bit unlucky. With 10 men, we forced them back and created too many chances."
