Team USA has unexpectedly been eliminated from the FIBA World Cup.

Germany beat the USA 113-111 in the FIBA World Cup semifinal by playing faster than any team had before against the Americans, exposing their defense in that open space, and forcing matchups that they could take advantage of.

Noah Lyles, a star in the US track and field community, caused a stir when he declared that it was improper for American sports champions to refer to themselves as "world champions" since they only compete against American teams.

Lyles received massive criticism from NBA stars such as Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and even Canadian Rapper Drake.

He received some support online when the USA lost to Germany in the semifinal.

Fans immediately remembered Lyle's comments after he caused a stir in the NBA a few days ago and believed that he was completely justified in everything he said about the NBA champions not deserving to be named "world champions."

A lot of people will continue to discount this defeat as the result of the absence of the best NBA players.

When Team USA sends their Dream Team to participate, as we've seen frequently in the Olympics, it's a force to be reckoned with.

However, there is currently a lot more support for the claim that American basketball champions do not automatically qualify as world champions.

Those bragging rights will belong to the following FIBA champion, who will either be Germany or Serbia with the finals set for Sunday, September 10, 2023.
