Chelsea's move for Caicedo

The Blues have been in the hunt for the talented defensive midfielder but have seen their bids rejected by fellow Premier League side Brighton.

Chelsea had tabled three separate bids for the young midfielder as they look to continue their rebuild under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino.

According to a report by The Athletic, Liverpool has agreed to pay exactly what Brighton wanted for their most prized asset.

The Seagulls had insisted that the 21-year-old will only be allowed to leave the Amex for the highest bidder and held an auction with a midnight cut-off for the player where Klopp's Liverpool emerged as the preferred bidders.

Liverpool will pay Brighton in excess of a hundred million pounds for Caicedo while the player and club sort out personal terms before a medical expected to be planned for Friday per the Athletic.

With Caicedo set for Anfield, this will make him the most expensive player in Liverpool's history, shattering the 75 million pounds the club paid for captain Virgil van Dijk.

This deal will also see the Reds break the 105 million pounds Arsenal paid this summer for Declan Rice who joined the club from West Ham United this summer.

Caicedo's departure will see Brighton kick off the new Premier League season with the midfield duo that helped the club to a historic Europa League spot last season.

Brighton players celebrate together

Argentina's Alexis Mac Allister had already joined Liverpool earlier in the summer and will now be reunited with his former teammate at Brighton once the deal is completed.

Liverpool will kick off the 2023/2024 campaign with a big clash against Chelsea on Sunday while Brighton host Premier League new boys Luton 24 hours earlier.
