2023 women's world cup: Nigeria bags N1bn cash reward from FIFA after progress to knockout stage

The Super Falcons of Nigeria are now guaranteed $1.38 million (N1.06 billion) as prize money from the apex's football governing body, Federal of International Football Association, FIFA.

The Nigeria Women's football team secured their spot in the knockout stage of the competition for the third time in nine appearances after a goalless draw with the Republic of Ireland in their last group game on Monday, July 31, 2023.

They finished second with five points in their group behind co-hosts, Australia, whom they had defeated earlier by three goals to two.

The Falcons also ended the group stage unbeaten to become the only African country so far in the tournament to have reach the round of 16.

They are now likely to face European champions, England or possibly Denmark depending on the outcome of these countries group's final fixture.

Every player in the Nigeria Women's football team at the tournament will get a cash reward of $60,000 (N46.2 million) each as $30,000 being their prize money in the group stage and another $30,000 for reaching the knockout stage.

Further progress into the quarterfinals will attract an additional $30,000, just as the money will rise significantly to $165,000 in the semi-finals.

The players who win the Women's World Cup will get $270,000, as the runners-up will get $195,000 and players with the third-placed finish will be given $180,000 each.
