'He's an okay player' - Gabby Agbonlahor says Mason Mount brings nothing to Chelsea

Mason Mount is nothing more than an 'okay player' according to talkSPORT's Gabby Agbonlahor.

The Chelsea star has been unable to produce his best form this season amid a breakdown in talks over a new deal at the club.

Mount, who has just three goals to his name this season, is currently on the sidelines with a pelvic injury and is uncertain of a return before the end of the season.

But former Aston Villa forward Agbonlahor unsure that Mount's absence is hampering Chelsea, with a host of other attacking options capable of filling in.

"He's scored 27 goals in 129 appearances. Come on, he's not fantastic is he? Let's be honest here," Agbonlahor told talkSPORT host Jamie O'Hara.

"The stats show that he's not [a good player]. He's an okay player but he's not doing outstanding."

O'Hara then leapt to the defence of Mount, in an exchange that saw both former players hold firm on their stance over the England star.

"Mason Mount's not a centre forward," O'Hara replied.

GA: "He's an attacking midfielder so he should be scoring goals. Do you think 27 goals is enough for an England international?"

J O'H: "How many assists has he got? It's what he brings to the team, people look up to him, he's come through the youth academy."

GA: "Which is nothing, [Martin] Odegaard has got 14 goals in one season."

J O'H: "He's been there since he was ten [years old] Gabby."

GA: "So what?"

Mount's future has been subject of recent speculation with contract extension talks at a standstill.

The midfielder has just 14 months remaining on his existing deal and both Liverpool and Manchester United are believed to be monitoring his situation ahead of a potential move.

Chelsea's mass recruitment drive has seen the club bring in Enzo Fernandez, Mykhailo Mudryk, Raheem Sterling, Noni Madueke and Joao Felix this season alone.

RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku is set to join the Blues this summer, leaving Mount's future at Stamford Bridge unclear.
