Manchester United star Antony back in training ahead of Barcelona and Newcastle clashes

Manchester United winger Antony was back in training on Monday ahead of the side's two huge fixtures this week.

United welcome Barcelona to Old Trafford on Thursday in the second leg of their Europa League play-off, with the tie finely poised at 2-2 following last week's thriller at the Camp Nou.

Three days later, Erik ten Hag's side head to Wembley to take on Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final.

Antony has missed United's last four matches, having not played since the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace with a leg injury.

The former Ajax star was spotted back in training at Carrington on Monday however, uploading a picture of himself in training gear with the caption: 'Thank you God for another day of work'.

Antony, along with Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay have all missed United's recent run of games with ten Hag suggesting last week the Brazil international and the midfielder could be fit in time to be in the squad for the Barcelona clash.

'It looks like they are on the way back,' Ten Hag said. 'They're coming back on the training ground, individual (work).

'At the end of the week, maybe Scott and Antony in the team and after the weekend we're planning to take but we have to see.

'It looks good. I think they are on their way back, they are coming back on the training ground, individual work.

'At the end of the week, maybe Scott can make the team and after the weekend, we maybe plan Antony.

'But we have to see, they of course have to make the progress we see now.'

Ten Hag has rejigged his attacking set up in Antony's absence with Bruno Fernandes taking up a wider role with Jadon Sancho offering another option having come back into the fold.

On Sunday in the victory over Leicester City, Sancho came off the bench at half-time to take up a central role behind striker Wout Weghorst, with Fernandes on the right and Marcus Rashford on the left.
