EPL: Chelsea lead race to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Man United in January

Chelsea has reentered the race to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United for the January transfer window.

The Blues failed to sign the Portugal international over the summer, as former manager, Thomas Tuchel did not approve the move.

The 37-year-old was desperate to leave United for a Champions League club and Chelsea was one of the clubs Jorge Mendes, his agent, offered him to.

Tuchel's refusal to allow the veteran striker join the Blues was said to have angered owner Todd Boehly who was desperate to sign him.

Chelsea went on to sign forwards Raheem Sterling from Manchester City and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona instead.

Sunday World reports that the American business mogul will try again in January when the window re-opens in light of the player's recent antics.

Erik Ten Hag, while addressing reporters after Red Devils' 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Saturday said Ronaldo remains an important part of his team.

However, other reports in England suggest that Ronaldo has already played his last game for the Red Devils and a January exit is preferred by all parties.

Boehly is also more hopeful of the move now, given that Tuchel is no longer in the dugout.
