The France midfielder, 29, departs on a free transfer, with former club Juventus and Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain in the hunt to sign him.

It is the second time the Red Devils academy graduate has left Old Trafford in the last decade, following his 2012 move to Juve.

United re-signed Pogba in an £89million move in 2016, a world-record transfer fee at the time and still a club record, but will lose him for nothing six years later.

The club issued a lengthy tribute to Pogba, who first joined the club as a 16-year-old.

Part of the statement read: "For a boy that joined the Academy at 16 to make over 200 United appearances and lift the Youth Cup, along with two major pieces of silverware - not to mention the World Cup at international level - is something that should be applauded and celebrated.

"Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Paul on his successful career, and thank him for his contributions to Manchester United.

"We wish him all the best for the next steps on a remarkable journey."

Pogba's last appearance for the club came at Liverpool in April, when he was substituted due to injury in the tenth minute of a 4-0 defeat.

The underwhelming conclusion to his United career reflects six years in which Pogba has struggled to fully endear himself to supporters.

Fans recently turned on Pogba during the 3-2 victory over Norwich, booing him off the pitch, and the midfielder responded by cupping his ears at full-time.

His second spell at Old Trafford was dominated by constant transfer speculation and multiple injuries.

Pogba only has a Carabao Cup and Europa league triumph in 2017 to show for his time at the club, scoring 29 goals in 154 Premier League appearances.

It is understood the Frenchman has rejected an offer from United's local rivals Manchester City, with a move abroad looking most likely.
