Chelsea's Mendy reveals who should've won AFCON's best goalkeeper award

Chelsea keeper, Eduoard Mendy, has said that Egypt goalkeeper, Mohamed Abou Gabal, simply known as Gabaski, was actually the best goalkeeper of the just concluded 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, in Cameroon.

Mendy won the 2021 AFCON best goalkeeper award ahead of Gabaski last Sunday after helping Senegal to beat Egypt in the final.

The 29-year-old conceded only two goals during the 2021 AFCON and blocked a penalty in the shootout against Egypt.

Gabaski, meanwhile, was the hero when the Pharaohs silenced hosts, Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, in the second semifinal of the AFCON last week.

Gabaski, who plies his trade with Zamalek, gave the final ticket to Egypt as he saved two penalties in a dramatic shootout against Cameroon.

When asked by the media what he thinks about Gabaski, Mendy said: "Gabaski, he is the best goalkeeper of the tournament [AFCON 2021].

"Honestly, I spoke with him, I told him he is the best. He deserves it. Honestly, I was really impressed by his tournament."
