EPL: Why Lacazette rejected Arsenal's contract extension

Alexandre Lacazette rejected Arsenal's one year contract extension because he is looking for longer deal elsewhere, according to French outlet, L'Equipe.

The French star recently rejected Arsenal's latest contract offer, handing a major dilemma to manager Mikel Arteta ahead of January transfer window.

Lacazette has been in brilliant form for Arsenal in recent months and had filled the void created by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's banishment.

His contract runs out in June 2022, and as it stands, he has decided to leave the Emirates at the end of the season as a free agent.

The 30-year-old has taken the armband on a temporary basis too with Arteta claiming he has thrived in a leadership role.

The Gunners will be desperate to have him stay at the Emirates, especially with Aubamayeng's future up in the air.

But the France international has turned down the club's latest one-year extension as he hopes for a long-term deal elsewhere.
