Chelsea midfielder leaves Stamford Bridge for new club ahead of Barnsley clash

Chelsea midfielder, Luke McCormick, has left the club to join League One side, Bristol Rovers on loan ahead of their Carabao Cup clash with Barnsley on Wednesday.

Chelsea disclosed this in a statement via the club's official website on Monday.

The statement read: "Academy midfielder Luke McCormick is moving on loan to League One side Bristol Rovers.

"It will be the second loan spell for the 21-year-old. He was at Shrewsbury Town, also in League One, in the first part of last season where he made eight appearances before returning to Chelsea.

"He played a part in our development squad securing the Premier League 2 title and last month appeared as a substitute in the men's first team pre-season game at Brighton.

"McCormick has been with Chelsea since Under-9s level and was part of the Under-18s side that won a treble of trophies in 2017.

"His new loan club Bristol Rovers are currently 20th in the League One table and have former Chelsea Academy defender Josh Grant in their squad. They are next in action on Saturday away at Doncaster Rovers."
