De Gea joined United from Athletic Bilbao for a fee of around £19m in 2011

De Gea is expected to sign the £375,000-a-week contract once he returns to England from United's pre season tour commitments abroad.

The Spaniard has just one year left on his current deal, which is worth £200,000-a-week, and boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been determined to keep hold of the 28-year-old.

De Gea has been voted the club's Player of the Year in four of the past six years and, despite a dip in form last season, Solskjaer still values him highly.

While De Gea is set to stay, Romelu Lukaku is believed to be determined to quit the club this summer.

Inter Milan had a £54m offer for the striker rejected earlier this week but the Belgian hopes the Italian club come back in with a fresh offer.

Inter boss Antonio Conte has been reluctant to discuss Inter's pursuit of the former Everton and Chelsea ace, but has spoken of his admiration for the player.

He said: "I think that I have always answered yesterday about Lukaku.

"I think that it's not right to speak about the player that in this moment is a United player.

"For this reason, I think we must show great respect for the club and at the same time also for the player and also for my players.

"As I said yesterday, Lukaku is a player...I like him, I like him because I consider him a player that could improve our team.

"But in one side there is my hope, my will. In the other side, then we'll see what we find with the club."
