Former Barcelona defender Dani Alves has revealed he used to ignore some instructions from club boss Pep Guardiola to bring out the best out of Lionel Messi.
According to Daily Mail citing Globo Esporte report, Guardiola changed the face of football during his four-year stint at Camp Nou, with his brand of tiki-taka football.
The Spaniard emphasized the important of short-sharp passes to unlock opposing teams and dislikes direct passes from a defender to a winger.
And during 2008-12 Barcelona were dominating oppositions courtesy of the understanding between right back Alves and forward Messi.
Speaking about their secret tactics to successes, Alves revealed he usually ignored Guardiola's instruction, to get Messi more involved in the game.
"Pep hates these full-back to winger passes because they don't offer progression," Alves was quoted as saying Globo Esporte, even as he was quick to add that he explained his reasons to the manager as he was annoyed.
"I told him if Messi doesn't touch the ball every two minutes, he disconnects and we need him connected so he can decide the game. He agreed."
Interestingly, despite going against the manger's plans Alves won 11 major trophies, which includes three La Liga titles and two Champions Leagues during his stint at Barcelona
