Dele Alli's heritage reason why England was booed by Nigerian fans at Wembley

England and Nigeria went toe-to-toe at Wembley on Saturday, but watching fans were immediately bemused to hear boos directed at Dele Alli.

Nigerian fans loudly heckled Alli from his very first touch and continued to boo the Tottenham star through-out the game.

Alli's father is Nigerian and the 22-year-old is eligible to play for the Super Eagles.

The midfielder of course chose to represent England, his birthplace and the country he grew up in, but a section of Nigerian fans are clearly still holding a grudge.

Alli is estranged from both his birth parents, but is one of England's brightest stars and will represent the Three Lions at the upcoming World Cup.

England will lean heavily on the talent and creativity of Alli as they look to shake off recent tournaments woes.

England's World Cup preparations got off to an excellent start at Wembley when Gary Cahill headed the Three Lions in front.

Gareth Southgate's side will also take on Costa Rica in their final warm-up game, before kicking off their World Cup against Tunisia.
